Failure Can Sometimes Be Your Best Friend
Failure is an experience that has an unpleasant feeling. Because of that, you often think it is the enemy. However, failure is your friend. It is the opportunity for something fresh, opening doors for new beginnings. It allows you to grow and to gain wisdom. The fear of failure, however, is the enemy. The idea of running from the possibility of failing and trying to avoid failure puts limits on your life. You short change yourself with those actions, because you lose out on critical information needed for you to excel in life.

Wisdom is applied knowledge. You apply knowledge to a situation to gain an experience that gives you a consistent result every time. Therefore, when you experience a failure, it is important to look for the information that was applied in that instance. In other words, if you fail at a business deal, look at the information applied that generated that outcome. You thought that if you invested a lump sum of money into a particular project, you would get a high return making a profit. Since your outcome was the opposite, you have learned that if you continue to invest in that manner, you will get the same result every time. Because of this specific failure, you have now gained knowledge that can be applied to future investments.

Once you understand the power of failure, you will also understand that running from it is a stronghold, a weakness. The outcome of your failures becomes your blueprint, a map that helps you to get to your goal. Avoiding it then means you will not have the information you need to progress in life.

There are several ways to overcome failures:

1. Time and space is the number one cure for most things. It brings natural healing. Put time and space between whatever you face in life and you will either get over it or survive it. When you’re in the midst of a failure, remember ‘trouble don’t last always’. You are a lot stronger than you think you are. Breathe in, breathe out. Now, dissect the information to assess what took place.

2. Begin to look at the other options in your life you hadn’t considered previously. When you are stuck and surrounded by circumstances, there are things that are being neglected in your life. Sometimes they are things you are not acknowledging. Other times, they are things you cannot see because there is so much noise and chaos around you.

3. Change your pattern. Change is an incredibly powerful weapon. Change brings about fresh and renewed information and therefore new perspectives. When change takes place, the opportunity to succeed presents itself.

This year, look for the opportunities even if there is failure. Use them to fail forward instead of getting stuck.

Choosing the Right Source for Your Success
In my previous blog, “Achieving Your Goals Faster”, I talked about accountability and the reason for having a mentor. Sometimes you’re hesitant to find a mentor because you’ve spent your childhood submitting to parents or another authority figure like a teacher. When you view mentorship, instead, as the pathway to success and avoiding painful mistakes, you see the benefits more clearly. That is dependent, however, on choosing the right person who will uplift you, empower you, and protect your personal information.

Choosing a mentor can be approached by the stage of your life or the focal point of your life. It can be in the form of a life coach, a business advisor, or a family member. If you’re a business person, you want someone who has the knowledge of starting and sustaining a successful business. Challenges that arise are different for an entrepreneur. If you are a single parent, you want someone who is effectively raising his or her children and has learned how to co-parent in a way that is healthy for the family. These situations differ from a traditional dual-parent household.

To have a successful mentorship, the person you choose must have these three characteristics:
1. Consistency. The individual must display consistency in the way he or she has lived and in the role he/she has played in your life, even if it has taken place from a distance. It could be a family member, a family friend, or someone you have been able to observe through the media.
2. Results. The individual must have the results you are looking for. A single woman may choose a married woman with a prosperous and healthy marriage or a divorced woman who can share the mistakes and pitfalls to avoid.
3. Godliness. The individual must have true spirituality. Spirituality is something that overtakes the natural ability and it flows throughout your life. It is evident in the way that person lives his or her life.

Mentorship puts you in a vulnerable, place because you’re placing total trust in someone. Therefore, it is important for your choice to exemplify the three traits noted above. Take a moment to survey your life for the person who fits these criteria. Making the right choice will help you to live an incredible life.

Achieving Your Goals Faster
One of the keys to success is accountability. By definition, accountability means you’re responsible to someone or for some action. It’s about being led or being submitted to someone’s leadership and authority. Many icons and successful people used this to their advantage. They sought the right people to submit themselves to in order to make the best decisions and remain on that path to a prosperous life. When you are accountable to the right person, you get the benefit of their wisdom and experiences which helps you to progress faster in attaining your goals. That person is your mentor.

There are very few people in life that have had great impact who were not submitted under an obligated leadership at some point in his or her life. Will Smith speaks often of surrounding himself with the right people, specifically five, and has referenced that as the reason for his success. Another example is Biblical character Joshua who submitted to Moses and was trained to become a great leader of the inexperienced Israelites.

You are responsible for your independence and the success in your life. Therefore, you must know the following things:
•the next steps and opportunities to take and those you shouldn’t take
•what to do with that success
•how to operate in that success
•how to make the right decisions for that success

The best way to accomplish those things is to be connected to a mentor so you can get the proper information. You will be enlightened and directed in many ways. You will be forewarned of undesirable outcomes. For example, a mentor will advise an entrepreneur that it takes time to see a profit when running a business, sometimes up to 15-20 years depending on the project. Invest in your company carefully over time so that you have resources to sustain your daily life during your company’s growth. A mentor will advise a single person to be careful of the decisions made when loneliness becomes overwhelming. Be certain it is a Godly situation and your decision is well thought out and vetted.

As you prepare yourself for a new season, consider these things. In next week’s blog, I will give you three tips to choose the right mentor to be accountable to.

Joy Will Change Your Life
Joy is powerful! It affords you the ability to gracefully navigate any challenge or circumstance. It gives you the strength and endurance for everyday life. As a key factor in success, it enables you to rewrite a situation, no matter how big or small, instead of feeling powerless. Joy is like a source that rewires your brain to behave differently in otherwise stressful situations.

Realistically, you awaken everyday facing challenges. The issues you face can be as large as losing a loved one or experiencing financial distress. Sometimes it can be the little things that nag at you consistently like having an untidy home, because you simply haven’t had the time to clean up. For some, it’s a challenge to simply get out of bed, which can be caused by arthritis, back pain, or some other ailment. This overwhelming feeling comes from dealing with one situation while the little nagging things keep cropping up every day, compounding your stress.

The good news is that you have the authority to overcome these challenges. You tap into that authority by developing joy and here are several ways you can do that:
1. Get the right information. Spiritual growth is a key factor in attaining true joy.
2. Be consistent in the belief that all things can have a positive outcome. It’s important to direct your mind and thoughts toward positive things. The areas you focus on are the areas that become the strongest in your life. Therefore, if you focus on the positive, positivity will increase in your life.
3. Be intentional about walking in the newness of well being. Joy is not accidental; it is a commanded thought pattern. If you begin to behave in a happy or calm manner, your day will be joyous.

People are attracted to people who are joyful. As you increase the joy in your life, you will begin to attract other people who are joyful.

Overcoming the Feeling of Loss During a Season of Change
You learn many things as you grow and one of those things is that life is constantly changing regardless of what you do. You view change as a friend when it’s initiated. You view it as the enemy when it’s unplanned or unexpected. Whether change is initiated or unexpected, it can all work for your good, if you handle it the right way. When change is embraced as a gain instead of a loss, it opens you up for growth and discovery of new things. You are then positioned to be promoted to the next level. So, it becomes more about how you perceive it rather than the change itself. Let’s face it. Some changes in life, you can’t avoid.

It is important for you to know that you have the ability and wherewithal to walk through whatever is present in your life. When walking through changing seasons, you will overcome things that you have no understanding of or relationship with. Many times when you go through change, it feels like you are losing something, like a relationship or a job. In essence, you may gain a mutually loving relationship by no longer being in the bad one. The moment you lose an old job, it will open up the opportunity for you to discover a new job and possibly an entirely new career. When you let go of something, you create an opening for something else to replace it. Make space for the new things that are coming your way in 2012. Embrace the change!

My Recent Tour to Nairobi Kenya
I recently had the opportunity to travel half way around the world to Nairobi, Kenya in Africa. We were able to spend 10 days in this beautiful country traveling from one end to the next. I also had along with me Gospel-Recording artists Dietrick & Damita Haddon. We stopped by Family TV Network to do interviews and performances along with visiting a local school as well as some of the community events. The tour closed with a big out door concert in the local park where there was standing room only. Someone captured this picture while I was on stage performing and I think it's amazing!

BUILDING UP YOU
When I think about all that I have come through there is one thing for sure that keeps me going and it's my ability to hope, trust, and what it means to let go of the past. I am such a believer in the individual that I feel the need to not address crowds but individuals. We have to remember that we have the power to build a life that is pleasing to God as well as ourselves. You can't expect a life to stand on a foundation that is broken or shattered. This is why it's so important to build your life the right way because the reality is that storms will come and problems will arise but if you build your life on a solid structure and in a solid way it will be able to stand no matter what you face. So you maybe you are thinking where do I start now that I am already a grown man or woman? How do I began again and build this life that Javen is speaking about? Well there are a couple of things I want to bring to your attention that might be at least a starting point for you on the path of building you the right way.
I think that we usually hope more when things are going well but when we face tough times it's really hard to have hope. One of the definitions for the word hope means that it's "possible". Your possibilities don't have to be realistic or factual it just has to be within your mind's eye or your imagination. This is what starts a downward pattern to no return when it comes to building our life. We must first realize that we can and should have hope that goes beyond our natural ability. One of the best ways to began to hope again would be to find out who you are as a person. The image in the mirror is very ugly sometimes but you have to be willing to take a good look at what needs to be worked on and what's working for you. Think about it, you would never look in the mirror while getting dress, see a hair out of place and just leave it sticking out before leaving the house. Chances are you would find a comb or brush and try to put the hair back in place before going to your destination. It is the same way with who you are as a person. You have got to become very comfortable with looking in the mirror and saying I need to work on this or this is out of place in my life so it has to change today!
In closing I feel the need to address the fact that not only are you building your life but you are also learning to love who you are. No one in their right mind would build a house they don't want to live in but many of us have bought houses with great potential to live in. So it's ok to not love everything about yourself but remember the potential that's on the inside of you and the possibilities that can come out of it. Loving yourself doesn't mean agreeing with everything about yourself it means being ok with the fact that you know that good, bad, or ugly there is such worth and value in the frame and foundation of your life. Be willing to build you all over again even if it means tearing down some areas to make room for new areas in your life. You'll be glad you did because a life worth living is a life worth building.

HOPE IS ONE OF THE MOST POWERFUL THINGS IN LIFE
Hope is a word that can be over used and yet not used enough. When I think of all the words I could say that represents what keeps a person wanting to live nothing is more powerful than the word hope. When we really think about it the only reason you and I are here today is because our mom and dad at some point in their life hope to find love, a family, and maybe even to have a beautiful child just like you. Life has a way of bring so much discouragement through different problems and issues that we sometimes want to just give up. Have you ever asked yourself how did I make it through those tough exams back in college or how did I make it through a training session for a job or a giving sport? Well rather you knew it or not something called hope was down on the inside somewhere giving you the necessary energy to keep going another day. Yes it may be hard to believe that many great things in life all evolved on such a simple yet powerful word?

Hope by definition means a confident expectation based on something solid. Hope also means that something is “possible” based on sure knowledge or statics. If you are older than your teen years I am sure you know what it is to hope for something and it not come to pass. Because of our past experience hope then becomes harder to obtain the second time around but it can be done. Many times in the past we may have had our hope in people or in things but this time around we have to remember that our hope has to be based on God’s word and His principles. We can’t place hope in things that are temporary and may change at any minute because this causes us to lose hope for future gain. Many people don’t have hope today because of bad memories of yesterday. This one fact you should know and that is the fact that it’s in your past means it’s behind you and not in front of you.

You can find or rebuild your hope through many methods. Sometimes it may just be the smile of a child or a new baby being born into the family. Your hope can also be built by taking in new information or knowledge about a given circumstance. What you don’t know can hurt you and will definitely destroy your ability to have hope. People that quit are people that constantly hold on to past defeats and setbacks, but people who stay with it are people who see each event as an experience in life that they can say I made it through. So no matter how you chop it up it’s so important to let go of what you use to be and embrace what can be. Our current president ignited an entire country that was discouraged and frustrated on this one word. It is because of hope that Jesus himself died on the cross for our salvation. It was hope that caused many of our ancestors traveling near and far in deadly situations to continue the journey to freedom and a better life. It was hope that caused one Jewish man to survive the holocaust holding on to see his wife and child even though they were both dead. Don’t be dismayed today hold your head up and grab a hold of this simple thing called hope and you too will make it.

LYRICS "COUNT IT ALL JOY"
COUNT IT ALL JOY

I CAN’T SEE THE AIR STILL I CAN BREATHE
IT’S HERE BUT IT’S INVISIBLE
JUST LIKE WHEN I’M BLESS MY HEART DOESN’T SEE
TIL AFTER THE MIRACLE
BUT I’M LEARNING TO TRUST YOUR MERCIFUL LOVE

COUNT IT ALL JOY WHATEVER COMES
I WILL SURRENDER
FATHER LET YOUR WILL BE DONE
YOU KNOW ALL I NEED
YOU’VE CALLED ME BY NAME
SO I’LL WALK THROUGH THE DARK HURRICANE
RIDE THROUGH THE FIRE LONG AS I HEAR YOUR VOICE
I WILL COUNT IT ALL JOY

I’M LEARNING THE NIGHT IS ONLY THE START
OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL DAY
AND WHEN MY WORLD IS TORN APART
I KNOW I CAN LOOK TO YOUR GRACE
CAUSE I’M LEARNING TO TRUST
YOU ARE MORE THAN ENOUGH

HOW CAN I UN-BREAK A HEART
AND POINT THEM TO YOU IF I COULDN’T SAY
I FELT THAT WAY AND IT’S SOMETHING I’VE BEEN THROUGH

AND I AM HERE TO SING

RIGHT HERE I AM TO WORSHIP YOU
I LIFT MY HANDS AND SAY WHAT’S TRUE
THE ONLY GOD I’VE COME TO KNOW
THE RIGHTOUS ONE FOREVER MORE

KEEPING THE FAITH

SOMETIMES IT GETS HARD I DON’T KNOW WHERE TO START
I FEEL ALL ALONE, KEEP PUSHING AND TRYING THROUGH TEST AND TRIALS
I GOTTA BE STRONG, I DON’T KNOW IF I CAN HAVE THE DREAMS I’VE SEEN
BUT I KNOW THAT IT WILL HAPPEN IF I JUST BELIEVE
SO IM HOPING AND PRAYING BELIEVING THINGS WILL CHANGE

OH OH KEEPING THE FAITH
OH OH I GOTTA KEEP THE FAITH

SEE I KNOW YOU’VE BEEN DOWN FOR QUITE SOMETIME
SEEMS LIKE THERE’S NOTHING THAT WILL EASE YOUR MIND
BUT YOU’VE GOTTA BE STRONG EVEN THOUGH YOU DON’T KNOW HOW THINGS WILL END BUT IN TIMES THINGS WILL WORKOUT FOR YOUR GOOD
HOLD ON AND PRAY JUST LIKE YOU SHOULD
THINGS WILL BE FIND IT JUST TAKES BUT YOU’LL BE ALRIGHT
ONE OF THESE DAYS YOU’LL SEE AND IT WON’T BE VERY LONG
YOU’RE GOING TO LOOK FOR ME AND I’LL BE A LONG TIME GONE
HANGHING OUT WITH MY FRIENDS TALK ABOUT HOW IT ALL WENT DOWN
HOW HE CHANGE MY LIFE COMPLETE AND HOW HE TURNED IT ALL AROUND

WITH ALL MY LIFE

I REALIZE SOMETHING NEW TODAY THAT CHANGE MY LIFE IN A SPECIAL WAY
